CMC’s first goal in designing their own actuators was to eliminate maintenance issues. Since oil lubrication is the accepted optimal lubrication methodology for roller screw actuation, all CMC actuators are completely oil filled. Using CMC’s unique oil lubrication system, they have eliminated the need for re-lubrication schedules; the CPD Series is maintenance-free for the life of the unit for almost all applications. Custom oils are available for unusual temperatures or projects with unusual lubrication challenges.

Creative Motion Control’s Planetary Roller Screws transform rotary motion into linear movement. The rolling elements consist of threaded rods which enable excellent force density, very high load capacities, and long life. Due to the increase in contacts point compared to ball screws, roller screws have two to three times the dynamic load capacity in the same physical space. In addition, the static load capacities are three times higher than ball screws. Because there are no recycled ball bearings, roller screws can handle two to three times the rotational speeds of ball screws.

In order to improve durability, the new GRB design increases the number of contact points in the same physical space. More contact points means longer life and greater load capacity to match the performance of CMC’s roller screws. This force density is unmatched in the industry and enables electric actuation solutions that are otherwise not available due to size constraints. Due to the extreme force density, the life of GRBs is five to 10 times the life of the same size angular contact bearing sets.
